let's talk about today because it is a milder day than yesterday for most of us, although still some areas we have pockets of 30s. some patchy fog and even a couple of sprinkles south and southwest of town right now. we'll have a mix of sun and clouds today. 50 by noon with a high in the mid-50s. that's in d.c. east and northeast of town, we may hold in the upper 40s but west of town, i think we're going to the low 60s in areas toward the shenandoah valley and in toward our southern suburbs. this morning a few sprinkles here. heavier wins toward michigan and illinois with thunderstorms with just lighter showers coming out of west virginia into northern virginia, along and south of interstate 66. this is going to track into southern maryland as well the next hour or two. visibilities are down to a mile in gaithersburg. so some low clouds, a little fog here and there but the worst fog is up in garrett county. looking at zero right now. and temps range from a chilly 34 in annapolis to 5 2k in -- to 52 in winchester. atmosphere can't make up its

have his push for immigration reform. his trip, of course, comes the day after a bipartisan group in the senate came up with their own framework on the it would provide for the estimated 11 million immigrants to one day become citizens. it would allow more guest workers and require a way for employers to verify they're hiring legal workers. deal zeal is live on -- delia goncalves is live on capitol hill with more. good morning, delia. >> reporter: good morning, jessica. members of this bipartisan gang of eight say this pathway to citizenship will not be an easy one. apparently, the pathway to a vote in congress will not be easy either. this plan has its critics and many of those critics say it amounts to nothing more than amnesty. and they doubt the administration's commitment to secure the borders. 22 g.o.p. senators oppose a similar plan in 2007. all of them still in the senate but republicans who support this plan say reform is good

for elections and the economy. >> reform is critical to the nation's economy. the reality is that even in a very tight economy, there are all types of industries in our country which have used the work of immigrants every day to achieve the economic goals of those industries. >> the vast majority of americans believe that we need to have a legal immigration system that works an we have no is not a 21st century legal immigration system. >> reporter: the house is working on its own version of immigration reform. however, many democratic leaders say they're not quite as far along as the senate and of course they have their own critics, many of them republican members of the house who are concerned about money and whether or not the money will go towards securing our boarders. we'll have much more -- our borders. we'll have much more coming up in the half-hour. >> thanks, delia, live on capitol hill this morning.

in the last year border patrol agents have been dealing with more people trying to come to the country illegal. in 2012 agents made more than 356,000 arrests along the mexican border. that's about 29,000 more than the previous year. nationwide arrests by the border patrol increased about 7% from 340,000 in 2011 to almost 365,000 in 2012. congress has now passed the $50 billion package of emergency relief for victims of superstorm sandy. the senate passed the bill last night 62-36. supporters say the money is desperately needed to rebold the homes and the businesses in new york, new jersey and connecticut. the 36 republicans who voted against it wanted $50 billion in spending cuts somewhere else to keep from this bill adding to the national debt. president obama said he will indeed sign the bill. the president is also asking three communities affected by mass shootings to help convince congress to pass some new gun corol

legislation. the president and members of his cabinet met month with police chiefs in aurora, colorado, oak creek, wisconsin and newtown, connecticut. the president said that no group is more important than law enforcement when it comes to the gun control phase. time right now is 6:05. i'm watching your money. wall street will be watching at the federal reserve begins a two-day meeting here in d.c. at the fed's previous meeting, policymakers promised to keep interest rates near record lows till the unemployment rate falls below 6.5%. it's currently at 7.8%. unfriday the government is scheduled to release the january unemployment report. yahoo reported profits and sales which beat wall street estimates. this is the first quarter under the c.e.o. marissa mayer who left google to join yahoo. and hostess is expected to announce a bidder for drakes

minutes. mike and jess? >> thanks, monika. just about 6:10. here are some of the other things making news now. family members of a new york city woman who vanished while she was vacationing in turkey are now working with u.s. officials trying to find her. 33-year-old sarai left on a trip by herself. when a family member called the hostile where she stayed, all of her things were still in her room. research shows women who inherited harmful mutations in their braca gene are at a higher risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. those women also undergo menopause sooner than other women. usually at age 50 compared to age 53. researchers followed more than 1,000 women. they found women who are heavy smokers with a mutated gene have an even earlier onset of

william border here. it's moving east, southeast. we'll get into st. mary's and calvert with maybe the heavier shower just south of manassas headed for dale city and potomac mills area the next little while. want company, you may get -- quantico, you may get a passing sprinkle. providence 28. out to the west, look at all the 50s. roanoke 55. charleston 53 degrees. we've got some 50s that have made it in areas in the shenandoah valley and close to 50 in round hill and western loudoun but leesburg is 36. yeah, there's a hill right here. pretty big one. that's the difference between the warm air and the cold air. look at the low to mid-30s now to our east. bowie is 36. but southern prince george's county, andrews, baden 44. waldorf 45. so we just got to get rid of these few pockets of cold and it will be a more comfortable afternoon. good visibility. partly cloudy out there and mostly cloudy. feeling like 39 with a south

wind at 5 and humidity high this morning, 89%. we're going to watch the showers for the most part stay in pennsylvania except for the little ones we've got this morning. here we are at lunch time. in the afternoon milder. 50s and low 60s. some areas well northern and northeastern maryland, perhaps staying in the upper 40s. now, overnight tonight, fairly quiet, clouds fill back in, some spotty drizzle not out of the question. tomorrow is going to depend on how much sunshine we see. we stay with the clouds. we'll stay in the 60-degree range, low 60s. if we can bust out a little sunshine, 65, even 70 south isn't out of the question. here come the showers and storms wednesday evening into wednesday night before the colder air moves back in here for thursday. and thursday's temperatures will be steady or falling. 56 this afternoon. some patchy fog this morning. 60s out west. tomorrow yellow alert day for the afternoon and evening thomples. could -- evening thunderstorms. could have heavy downpours, gusty winds, 66. heading for thursday, windy and colder, 46.

they left. but even after that, the fun began. thousands of ravens fans braved the freezing rain and packed baltimore's inner harbor for a sendoff party. head coach john harbaugh said the energy out there was just electric. the team boarded their charter at bwi and arrived at new orleans mid afternoon and enjoyed a rather large police escort to the hotel. that's where we caught up with the team. and the players couldn't stop talking about the excitement. >> that's baltimore, man. that city is awesome. you know, i told john and i told a couple other guys, i said, you know, this feeling is great. this feeling is great. the sendoff is often but there's nothing better than coming home as world champions. >> the fans were crazy. they had the music going and there was thousands of people there and everybody was excited. they were doing the raven chant that they do. we were kind of all on the way to the airport pretty excited about that. >> reporter: over the course of

yesterday, undocumented immigrants must pass a background check, pay fines and back taxes and learn english. ensure the illegal immigrants will not get citizenship before immigrants already working towards a green card. labor unions support this plan. >> we will march, rally, pray and knock on every door in congress to remind lawmakers that our nation deserves an immigration system that sustains our communities, our families, and an economy that values a prosperous nation built by immigrants. >> the president believes that it's very important that we move forward on comprehensive immigration reform. it's the right thing to do for the country, for our economy. it's the right thing to do out of fairness to the middle class to make sure that everyone plays by the same set of rules. >> reporter: however, you can imagine the plan has its critics. 22 g.o.p. senators opposed a similar plan back in 2007.

shot and killed patricia cook while she was sitting in her jeep. harmon-wright says he shot her in self-defense saying cook trapped his arm in the window of her jeep and started dragging him. prosecutors disagree saying it was excessive force which turned into murder. the jury got the case yesterday afternoon deliberating for three hours. they went home after that again they get the case one more time today. have you got an flu shot yet? if you haven't you have another opportunity today and it's free. prince george's hospital center is offering a free flu shot clinic this afternoon in its pavilion lobby on hospital drive if landover, maryland. the vaccines are going to be offered from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. they are only for people over the age of 18. maryland right now is one of more than 40 states still reporting widespread influenza cases. time right now is 6:35. i am watching your money. so how do you deal with having should much money? nice problem to have. that's exactly the problem that's facing d.c. lawmakers.

at the end of the 2012 fiscal year, the city is expected to have a surplus of $400 million. councilman jack evans wants the surplus to be added to the rainy day fund. that would give the city $1.6 billion in that rainy day fund. the reserve fund would help protect the city if there was a sudden reduction in federal spending. the maker of the blackberry set to unveil an upgraded smartphone yesterday. the new blackberry 10 system will have a speedier browser. it will also have the ability to keep work and personal identities separate on the same phone. blackberry has lost ground in recent years to apple's iphone and google android devices. sales at jcpenney are coming back. by popular demand this week the department store chain will roll out some of the sales it ditched last year. it's a move for customers who want the sales coming back. pennies also plans to add new price tags or signs for more than half of its merchandise. those are going to show
